Congressman Walkinshaw has been a regional leader on transportation, working to build a more connected, sustainable, and efficient system for Northern Virginia. As Chair of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board, the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the D.C. area, he led the development of a long-range plan to cut congestion, expand access, and lower carbon emissions.
As Chair of the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board, he oversaw expanded commuter rail service and the launch of the first-ever Saturday service, giving families and workers more reliable transit options. He has also brought local and regional partners together to secure funding for major infrastructure improvements and expand transportation choices for commuters and businesses alike. In Congress, James will fight for robust federal investments in public transit, rail, and road infrastructure to reduce commute times, drive economic development, and fight climate change. He will support the Strong Communities Act, which incentivizes transit-oriented development and smart growth, and back the Investing in Our Communities Act to expand access to affordable, reliable transportation networks. He is also committed to securing dedicated federal funding for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to ensure safe, reliable Metro service for the millions of riders who depend on it every year. And he will build on the progress of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, pushing for stronger commitments to rail expansion, bus electrification, and infrastructure modernization to meet the needs of a 21st-century economy. |
