MAGA Republicans Deny Vote on Walkinshaw Amendment to Defund DOGE

Last night, House Republicans blocked a vote on Congressman James R. Walkinshaw’s amendment aimed at defunding DOGE, the chaotic and reckless program that has disrupted federal agencies across the government. “Republicans had the opportunity to rein in Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s disastrous DOGE program, which has brought complete chaos to the federal government,” said Congressman Walkinshaw. “Instead, in the dead of night, they protected DOGE’s attacks on the Social Security Administration, IRS, and Veterans Administration, ignoring their responsibility to protect the American people.” The amendment, submitted as part of the upcoming Continuing Resolution, simply stated that no federal funds should be used to carry out DOGE. The first piece of legislation Congressman Walkinshaw introduced upon being sworn into office was the Limit on Sweeping Executive Reorganization Act, a measure that would prevent any president from unilaterally dismantling or hollowing out federal agencies without Congressional approval. The legislation requires any proposed reorganization that cuts large numbers of federal employees, slashes budgets, or outsources core government functions to secure explicit approval from Congress. It also establishes safeguards to protect federal workers, ensure transparency, and preserve the merit-based civil service system that has served Americans for more than a century. ### |
