Congressman Walkinshaw believes every working family deserves a safe, affordable place to call home. He recognizes that the housing crisis in Fairfax and across the nation is not just a local problem but a national emergency. He has already taken bold steps locally — converting an underused county-owned parking lot into 279 units of affordable housing plus a childcare center, supporting the dedication of a real-estate tax penny to fund affordable housing, and pushing for zoning and permitting reforms to increase housing supply.

In Congress, James supports the Road to Housing Act, comprehensive legislation to cut red tape, modernize environmental reviews, expand manufactured housing, and empower HUD to work more flexibly with local communities. He also supports the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act to strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, expand financing for affordable developments, and make the program work better for Northern Virginia communities.
