Congressman Walkinshaw has been a tireless advocate for veterans and military families in Fairfax County. When an oversight in state law denied tax relief to spouses of service members who died in the line of duty, he worked to pass new legislation and drafted the local ordinance to correct it. He also established Fairfax County’s first-ever Veterans and Military Families Commission to ensure veterans’ voices are heard at every level of local government.
In Congress, James will fight to ensure that veterans and their families receive the care, benefits, and respect they have earned. He will push for stronger oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, support expanded mental health care and suicide prevention programs, and champion enhanced survivor and caregiver benefits. He will also advocate for legislation that strengthens educational opportunities, job training, and housing assistance for veterans, ensuring that those who have served our nation can thrive in civilian life. James is also the lead sponsor of the Veterans Fraud Reimbursement Act, which would guarantee veterans are fully reimbursed if their VA benefits are stolen by a bad actor. |
