Dear Neighbor,
We’re now on day 31 of the shutdown. I’ve been at the Capitol every day working to end it and protect Fairfax families from this growing crisis.
Right-wing leaders continue to block negotiations to reopen the government, instead demanding that their devastating health care policies move forward.
Those cuts would cause 18,005 VA-11 residents to lose coverage and 19,000 more to face skyrocketing premiums — all while D.C. conservatives remain on paid vacation instead of working with Democrats to reach a bipartisan agreement.

These aren’t just numbers; they’re families here in Fairfax and across America who will soon be forced to choose between paying for health care, paying their bills, or putting food on the table.
These are our loved ones and friends.
Last week, I heard from Lindsay, a mother from Fairfax, who shared how right-wing policies that include cuts to Medicaid would devastate health care for her 10-year-old son, who has multiple disabilities. Her family’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s at stake and why I’ll keep fighting every single day to protect Fairfax families from these cruel and careless policies.
To make matters worse, now 42 million Americans are at risk of losing their November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits because the Trump administration has not yet decided to use legally available funds.
Let me be clear about what's happening: The Administration has the legal authority to fully fund SNAP benefits in November. The SNAP contingency fund exists for exactly this purpose, and Secretary Rollins has the transfer authority to ensure full benefits go out.

This Saturday, November 1, I will be hosting an Open Season Workshop from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035).
With health care choices front and center this time of the year, I want to make sure every federal employee and retiree in our community has the information they need to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. Open Season enrollment for federal employees and retirees begins November 10 and runs through December 8, 2025.
We’ll be joined by a Federal Employees Health Benefits expert, along with health care vendors who can answer questions about plan options, coverage updates, and benefits for the year ahead.
This is a valuable opportunity to compare plans, learn about available options, and make informed choices during Open Season.
For more information on Federal Employee Health Benefits, visit OPM’s website. Details on dental and vision coverage are available here.
As always, my office is here to help. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call us at (703) 256-3071.

Right-wing extremists are feeling the heat as America barrels toward the health care cliff their policies have created. That’s why I joined the House Democratic Women’s Caucus and my House Democratic colleagues at the Capitol to highlight how this crisis is hurting hardworking families and small businesses across Virginia.
We came together for a House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee hearing focused on strengthening America’s health care economy and protecting the Affordable Care Act tax credits that millions of women, businesses, and families rely on to afford rising health and caregiving costs.
While D.C. conservatives continue to block bipartisan efforts to reopen the government, Democrats are working to make care more accessible, lower costs, and protect the programs families depend on every day.
I’ll keep fighting alongside my colleagues to end this shutdown, protect health care, and ensure every family and business has the stability and support they deserve.

I led a resolution alongside Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to honor Jamal Khashoggi, a VA-11 constituent and Tysons resident who was brutally murdered for speaking truth to power.
Jamal was a fearless journalist and dissident who called Fairfax home. He wrote courageously for The Washington Post and other publications, standing up for human rights, free speech, and government accountability. I had the privilege of meeting him before his death and will never forget his commitment to truth and justice.
Our resolution honors Jamal’s legacy and calls on the Saudi government to release wrongfully detained individuals, respect freedom of the press, and protect the basic rights of all Saudi citizens. With the Saudi Crown Prince set to visit former President Trump at the White House next month, I’ll continue speaking out to ensure that America’s foreign policy reflects our values.

This week, I signed three discharge petitions on the House floor to end Trump’s “national emergencies.” These tariff policies abuse power and impose reckless tariffs on our allies in Canada, Mexico, and across the globe.
These tariffs aren’t making America stronger. They’re driving up prices for families, disrupting supply chains, and hurting Virginia businesses that rely on trade with trusted partners.
I’m proud to join my House Democratic colleagues to restore Congress’s authority, rebuild economic stability, and stop Trump’s policies that misuse emergency powers before it does even more damage.

Our first responders represent the best of Fairfax: bravery, selflessness, and service without hesitation. At the Fairfax’s Finest Valor Awards hosted by the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, I had the privilege of thanking them for their quiet heroism and daily commitment to our safety.
In Congress, I’m working to ensure they have the resources, training, and federal support needed to continue protecting our community. ____________________________________________________________________

The arts are not a luxury. They are a necessity that strengthens our communities, fuels creativity, and supports good jobs across Fairfax.
I was proud to join ArtsFairfax in celebrating this year’s award winners—individuals and organizations whose work brings culture, connection, and opportunity to every corner of our region.

Federal workers are the backbone of our government and keep America running every day. They deserve respect, stability, and fair treatment.
I met with former federal employees who were impacted by past workforce cuts to hear their stories and discuss how Congress can better protect those who serve.

Next Step Forward for the Willard–Sherwood Community Campus
|
Fairfax continues moving forward with an exciting project that will bring health, wellness, and recreation together under one roof. Construction of the Willard–Sherwood Health and Community Center continues moving ahead, marking a major step toward creating a modern, accessible space for families across our community.
The proposed 100,000-square-foot facility will house county-operated health services, child care programs, and a variety of Fairfax city-run community services, including a gym and fitness center, a senior center, multipurpose classrooms, and an updated performing arts space.
Following recent approvals by the Fairfax City Council, the project remains on track to move into the next phase of planning and development. This joint effort between Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax reflects years of collaboration to deliver high-quality, community-centered services for residents of all ages.
As work begins, residents seeking Health Department services can visit any of the County’s public health centers.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with doors opening in 2028. This project represents a significant investment in the health, well-being, and future of Fairfax.
