Dear Neighbor,
First, I want to wish you and your family a very happy holiday season! I hope the coming weeks are filled with peace, relaxation, family, and friends for you and your loved ones. As we approach the New Year, families across Northern Virginia are doing the math and feeling the pinch at the grocery store, when they open their utility bills, and as they shop for holiday gifts. This week’s jobs report only added to the anxiety, with unemployment at a four-year high and layoffs mounting.

If these tax credits expire, 8,000 VA-11 residents are at risk of losing coverage, and thousands more will face skyrocketing costs. There are far too many families like Jack’s who rely on this support to stay insured.
What makes this worse is that a bipartisan majority of the House already supports extending these tax credits. We just need Speaker Johnson to bring the bill to the floor for a vote. Congress should not leave for a holiday vacation until we vote and give families the certainty they deserve. As your Congressman, I will keep fighting with everything I have to make health care affordable and lower prices for working families.
Please continue reading below to learn more about how I’ve been fighting for you. Make sure to follow me on X, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and Threads to stay up-to-date!

From Farmville to the U.S. Capitol, Barbara Rose Johns’ fight against segregation at just 16 years old now stands in bronze. In 1951, she led a two-week student walkout at Moton High School in Prince Edward County to protest overcrowded classrooms and unacceptable conditions. That student-led movement helped spark the push that culminated in the Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision.
Today, her statue replaces Robert E. Lee in the U.S. Capitol, replacing a symbol of division and treason with a symbol of courage, unity, and American values. As Leader Hakeem Jeffries put it, Virginia will now be properly represented by an actual patriot. I was honored to be there in person to pay my respects to Barbara Johns and her family, a giant whose leadership helped change the course of our country.
I’m proud Virginia is celebrating her legacy, and grateful to the Johns family, former Governor Ralph Northam, and Senator L. Louise Lucas for helping make this moment possible.
You can watch the full ceremony here.

I’m pleased to share that the Federal Supervisor Education Act passed on the House floor. This legislation will ensure that newly promoted supervisors in federal agencies have the training and resources they need to succeed. It will now move on to the Senate.
When the bill was considered by the Oversight Committee, I was successful in passing an amendment to strike language that could have been used to justify additional firings of so-called "probationary" employees.
Northern Virginia is home to thousands of dedicated public servants, and I will keep fighting to protect them and ensure our federal workforce is treated with fairness and respect.

I was honored to join Kids Give Back at their Gift Baskets for Babies event and learn more about how they serve elementary school children and help inspire the next generation of leaders.
In Congress, I will continue to partner with organizations that serve and support Fairfax residents.

I was grateful for the chance to visit and thank the Burke Volunteer and Vienna Volunteer Fire Departments' fire and rescue volunteers and staff at their annual Pancake Breakfasts.
I also learned more about how these Departments keep our communities safe.
Their service is exactly why I’ve been pushing in Congress for strong public safety resources and emergency preparedness that meet the moment.

Welcoming Braddock District Supervisor Rachna Sizemore Heizer
I’m pleased to congratulate Rachna Sizemore Heizer on being sworn in as Braddock District Supervisor.
When I was sworn in to serve you in Congress, I stepped away from my seat on the Board of Supervisors. Braddock is a special community, and I know families are in great hands with Supervisor Sizemore Heizer.
Rachna is a longtime Fairfax resident, a lawyer, professor, and a disability justice advocate. She previously served on the Fairfax County School Board, including as Chair, where she focused on strengthening educator recruitment, improving literacy and special education services, and expanding access to advanced academics.
I look forward to working with Supervisor Sizemore Heizer as a strong partner for Fairfax families and the Braddock District.

Celebrating Dr. Gregory Washington’s Leadership
Congratulations to Dr. Gregory Washington, President of George Mason University, on being recognized as Education Leader of the Year by the Washington Business Journal. This is a well-deserved honor and a testament to his steady, forward-looking leadership.
George Mason is one of Fairfax County’s great engines of opportunity. It strengthens our local economy, prepares students for careers that power our region, and fuels innovation that reaches far beyond campus. Under Dr. Washington’s leadership, Mason has continued to deepen its impact for students, faculty, and the broader Fairfax community.
We are grateful for his service and proud to celebrate this recognition with the entire Mason community.
