Dear Neighbor, As the conflict in Iran escalates, my thoughts are with the brave men and women who wear our nation’s uniform and with the families mourning the six servicemembers who have been killed. My prayers are with them, and with Americans now in harm’s way. I’m also thinking about Virginians abroad who are stranded or trying to get home. If you or your loved ones are overseas, please enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and monitor the latest guidance at Travel.State.gov. The State Department has also recently opened a crisis intake form for U.S. citizens in the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Israel who want information about available aviation and ground transportation options.

If you need assistance returning home, our office also stands ready to help. I will continue sharing the most up-to-date information as it becomes available.

Since my last newsletter update, President Trump launched strikes against Iran without presenting Congress or the American people the evidence needed to justify this attack—and with no credible plan to prevent escalation.

After sitting through a classified briefing with Secretary of State Rubio and Defense Secretary Hegseth, I’m more convinced than ever: there was no imminent threat to America, and the President's foreign policies have not clearly defined what our mission is.

Let me be clear: I condemn the Iranian regime—its repression, its support for terrorism, and its nuclear weapons ambitions. But that does not give President Trump's policies a blank check to bypass the Constitution, launch yet another war in the Middle East, and put servicemembers in harm’s way.

That’s why I support the bipartisan Iran War Powers Resolution to end this war.

And while Trump’s war policies manufacture chaos abroad, Virginia families are still facing an affordability crisis. President Trump’s tariff policies have done everything but lower costs—raising prices and costing families across our district an average of $1,700 more a year.

People are struggling to afford health care, keep up with rent or a mortgage, and put food on the table. They deserve a government focused on delivering relief—not reckless policies that make life harder.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been in a shutdown for nearly three weeks because the conservative House majority has not worked with us to advance common sense reforms to safely reopen the department.

After the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, DHS enforcement cannot continue as-is.

That’s why I’m fighting for reforms, including:

  • Requiring judicial warrants for home entries
  • Mandatory body cameras for enforcement operations
  • No masked or unidentified federal officers
  • Independent criminal and civil investigations when misconduct is alleged
  • An end to roving patrols
  • A ban on targeting sensitive locations like houses of worship, hospitals, polling places, and schools
  • An end to racial profiling
  • Real professional standards and accountability for DHS agents

Major Win for Our Community: $13.4 Million Secured

FFXNow

I’m proud to report that I secured $13,409,000 in federal funding in the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills for critical community projects across Northern Virginia.
Most of these priorities were ones I pushed forward as Chair of the Legislative Committee on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, working in partnership with then-Congressman Gerry Connolly.

Since my first day in Congress, I made it a priority to keep pushing these projects across the finish line, and I supported the funding bills that delivered these investments.

This funding will help deliver real, visible results for our community, including safer roads in high-crash areas, more reliable infrastructure at NOVA’s Annandale campus for thousands of students, stronger 9-1-1 and emergency response systems, improved public safety training and preparedness, cleaner drinking water, expanded tree canopy to reduce extreme heat, and safer access and improvements along the W&OD Trail in Vienna.

Holding OPM Accountable for Federal Retirees’ Missing Tax Forms

OPM_Tax_Documents

Virginia is home to thousands of federal retirees who did everything right, worked hard for years, and earned the benefits they rely on. This tax season, too many of them have been thrown into unnecessary chaos because the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has not delivered required Form 1099-R tax documents on time, and retirees have struggled to reach live help when they call for answers.

That is unacceptable.

When OPM fails to mail these forms or provide basic customer service, retirees are put at risk of filing late, facing IRS penalties, or missing refunds they depend on to cover everyday expenses like groceries, rent, and prescriptions.

That is why I am leading a group of Members of Congress, alongside Congressman Frank Pallone, in demanding immediate action from Scott Kupor, the Trump Administration’s OPM Director.

In our letter, we pressed OPM to explain how many 1099-R forms remain unmailed, what current call wait times look like, what customer service metrics the agency is using, and what concrete steps OPM will take right now to fix the problem and prevent it from happening again.

Our message is simple: federal retirees deserve timely documents, real answers, and respectful service. I will keep fighting to make sure Virginia retirees get the support they have earned and that OPM is held accountable for delivering it.

Fairfax Earns Top Recognition as a Great Place for Seniors

Fairfax County was recently recognized as one of the Top 100 Places to Live for Older Adults, ranking #5 among large communities. The recognition highlights Fairfax County’s commitment to ensuring older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers have access to the support they need to live safely and independently.

Fairfax County has expanded services that make a real difference for families—like care management, home-delivered meals, transportation assistance, and caregiver resources.

This work is guided by SHAPE the Future of Aging, the County’s five-year strategic plan to meet the changing needs of our growing older-adult population and ensure residents can age with dignity in the communities they call home.

In Congress, I will continue fighting to deliver for Fairfax so our community remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

Walkinshaw in the Community

It was wonderful to join Chair Deshundra Jefferson and community leaders for the State of the County. Fairfax and Prince William are strong partners, and I was proud to share an update on my work in Congress to support our schools, protect federal workers, and deliver for working families.

Thank you to everyone who came out to be part of the conversation.

I was honored to attend the Fairfax County Student Peace Awards and celebrate the remarkable leadership of our young people. Students and organizations from 28 high schools were recognized for their compassion, courage, and commitment to building more inclusive, peaceful communities.

Their example reinforces what guides my work in Congress every day: building safer, more united communities and expanding opportunity for every family in Fairfax.
