Walkinshaw Statement on Federal Court Order Halting Trump Administration’s Illegal Firing Scheme

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman James R. Walkinshaw (VA-11), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, released the following statement after a federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to immediately halt its illegal firing of federal employees during the ongoing Republican shutdown.

“Today’s ruling is a victory for the rule of law and for the thousands of dedicated public servants who have been targeted by a political agenda,” said Congressman Walkinshaw. “The administration’s unlawful effort to use civil servants as bargaining chips has been recognized for what it is, a cruel and self-serving political stunt that harms federal workers and undermines essential services for the American people. These employees deliver critical programs that affect our health, safety, and livelihoods, from disease control to homeland security to tax processing.”

“As I said on the eve of the shutdown, this scheme is a violation of federal law, and I will not stop calling out lawbreaking and fighting for our federal workers,” said Walkinshaw.
